Country Music’s Biggest Stars To Gather For The 45Th Acm Awards

It’s a done deal! One country music blog after another have all are once again filled with excited chatter about the latest announcements regarding the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, which will be held on Sunday, April 18th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, its fifth time in eight years it’s been held at Las Vegas. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS at 8:00-11:00 pm (ET).

Twelve-time host, Reba McEntire, herself a recipient of no less that twelve ACM awards, will again grace the awards ceremony, a night typically filled with performances of the previous year’s top country songs. According to Orly Adelson, President of Dick Clark Productions and the Executive Producer of the ACM Awards, McEntire was a logical choice because, “no one does it better than Reba McEntire. She always brings spunk and personality to the show and we are honored to have the queen of country music back to host the Awards for the 12th time.”

Since its inception in 1964, the ACM Awards has honored the country music industry’s best musical talents for almost half a century. Previous winners include the music industry’s best and brightest stars- a who’s who of the country music scene for the past years. Its most prestigious award, The Artist of the Decade, has been given to country music heavyweights such as Marty Robbins (1960s), Loretta Lynn (1970s), Alabama (1980s), Garth Brooks (1990s), and George Strait (2000s). Another major award, Entertainer of the Year, have been given to the likes of Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Roy Clark, Barbara Mandrel, Garth Brooks, and Brooks and Dunn, as well as newer artists such as Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney, and Carrie Underwood.

As reported in a country music blog, this year, fans also get to vote for the artists who will win in the three Top New Artist Categories. The nominees for this year’s new artist categories are Luke Bryan, Jamey Johnson, and Chris Young for Top New Solo Vocalist; Bomshel, Joey + Rory, and Steel Magnolia for Top New Vocal Duo; and Eli Young Band, Gloriana, and The Lost Trailers for Top New Vocal Group.

Some of the artists that have already signed on to perform their hit country songs in what is expected to be a star-studded event include McEntire, Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, and Rascal Flatts. Another special event which has been announced as part of the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards celebration this year is the all-star concert special, “ACM Presents” brooks and Dunn- The Lat Rodeo,” which will be taped the following night at the same venue. This show will later be aired over on CBS. This comes as a special tribute for Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, who together, became the best-selling duo in the history of country music. They will also be feted with the Milestone Award in recognition of their career achievements.

In a statement, Bob Romeo, Executive Director of the Academy of Country Music, explained why they chose to do the special. “Brooks & Dunn have defined country music for 20 years.” He added, “With this all-star concert tribute, the Academy is honored to recognize Kix and Ronnie for their contributions to the country music industry, fans and to all the artists they have helped get a break in this business.”

An Introduction To WordPress As A CMS

One of the most exciting features about wordpress is the fact that you can customise it to meet your needs. There are literally thousands of free designs available on the internet, and if this doesn’t suit you there is a whole heap more available for purchase. WordPress also has a great feature which allows you to install plug-ins. These plug-ins are small pieces of programming that change how wordpress works, in some way. For example you may have a plug-in which automatically deletes spam (undesirable) comments left on your site, or even one which automatically places advertisements in each page you create. The possibilities really are endless when it comes to customising wordpress to suit your needs.

The first thing you need to do to get wordpress running is to download the latest version, this is available on the wordpress.org web site. You will end up with a .zip file which is around 3mb in size.

Although the wordpress installation is a very simple process, it is recommended that you possess the following skills to make it easier.

A server with PHP and MySQL (required!)
The basics of MySQL database management (creation, backup, etc.)
Basic knowledge of how HTML/CSS and PHP work.

For this guide I am installing wordpress on my local apache server, although the steps are exactly the same for those of you using a Linux hosting environment with cPanel.

Step One: Upload the wordpress install zip to your root directory, you can also use a sub directory if this is where you want the wordpress site to be located (for example blog.yoursite.com).

Step Two: Unzip/decompress the wordpress zip file, a folder named ‘wordpress’ will appear. It is in here where the main files for wordpress are located. Open the wordpress folder and move the files from ‘public_html/wordpress’ to ‘public_html’ if you want the wordpress install at the root of your site, otherwise you can leave them in the folder and the wordpress site will be located at ‘yoursite.com/wordpress’. Please note you can change the name of this folder as it will appear in your URL.

Step Three: You will need to create a database and user for this wordpress installation and assign privileges to the user. This can be done through cPanel easily, make sure you remember the password and other details as you will need these soon.

Step Four: Navigate in your web browser to the location of the wordpress files, this may be ‘yoursite.com’ or ‘yoursite.com/wordpress’. You will be asked to create a configuration file, click the button and one should be created for you.

Step Five: A screen will tell you that wordpress requires your database information; click next and there is another page where you enter this information. Database host is almost always localhost and you can use any table prefix if you only have one database for multiple systems. The rest of the information you should know from creating your databases in step three. If you enter the information correctly you will be asked to run the install, click the button now.

Step Six: Once the install is complete you get to enter some basic information on your wordpress site. Choose a site name and enter your email and a secure password for your admin account. Ensure the password is strong as people will often try and hack the admin accounts for wordpress sites. You can now log into your wordpress site and will be greeted by the sleek dashboard. Your base installation is now complete.

The first thing you will want to do once your installation is complete is to write your first post. On the left hand side of the page is the administration menu. Click on the item named ‘posts’ you are now taken to a list of active posts, and will see a test post. It is a good idea to delete this post as it is only there for testing purposes, hover over the ‘Hello World!’ post and you will see red text saying trash, click this and the post is deleted.

On the admin menu you will notice the posts item now has sub items (or items below it), these are specific options to do with the posts, and each main item on the menu will have sub items like this. You can show and hide them at any time by hovering over the main menu item and clicking the arrow to the right. Click on the ‘add new post button’ and we will write the first post for your site. Choose a title for your post then go to the next larger box and begin writing it, you may like to take this time to familiarise yourself with the features available inside the post box. Once you have written your post you need to choose a category, these categories are used to sort the posts on your web site. On the right hand site, click on the ‘add new category text’ and create a new category. You can manage these categories on their page which can be accessed under the Posts menu item. Click the ‘blue publish button’ on the right hand side of your page and the post is now published to your web site, wasn’t that easy!

Other important aspects of wordpress sites are pages. These are more static than posts and appear separately. Common uses for pages are for contact forms, about us pages, whereas posts are used for actual content. Click on the pages menu item to the left, then on ‘add new’, we are going to create an about us page. Enter the title of the page ‘about’ or ‘about us’ will work, then go about adding the content. Once you are happy with what you have written you can publish the page.

Adding a new theme to wordpress is a very simple process and it can help your site look more appealing to visitors. On the wordpress.org site there is an ‘extend’ category for themes, it is here that you will choose a look for your site. Once you have found a theme that you like, you can download it (which consists of a zip file). You will now upload this to your themes directory, this is located in the ‘wp-content/themes’ folder of your wordpress site. Once it is uploaded you will need to unzip/decompress it. Go back to your wordpress dashboard (admin menu) and click on appearance, now choose the Themes option. This page will list all of the themes you have in your directory, find the one you have just uploaded and select ‘activate’. Congratulations, it only took several clicks of the mouse but your site now has a whole new design.

Plug-ins are just as simple as themes to get working in your blog. You can look through the plug-ins section at wordpress.org to find any that interest you. Once you find one that you want on your wordpress site, download it (again a zip file, are you surprised?), but this time upload it to ‘wp-content/plugins’ and unzip/decompress. Click on the plugins menu item on the wordpress administration menu and your plug-in should be listed here, click on activate and the plug-in will begin working on your site. At this time the specific plug-in may require custom settings, you will get a popup notice if this is the case.

In this guide we only covered the basics on wordpress and the features any new site administrator is likely to use. There is so much more to wordpress and trying to write about every little feature would result in a massive book! We recommend that you take a look through all of the options of the administration menu, just so you can get an understanding of anything. If there is something that you would like to change it can likely be done easy using this menu. Maybe I’m getting old, but I had just about had it with writing my own RSS feeds and ftp-ing my website up and down and manually archiving pages every month.

I had forgotten that you can use blogger as an ftp uploader, give it your website information and it will put your blog wherever you want. It doesn’t do a lot of stuff — tags, categories, custom date formats — and I’ve decided I don’t care. Maybe this my "I love big brother" declaration, but I’m becoming too busy to code HTML by hand. In most ways this is not the bad news.

This shot is of Whitehaven Sands Beach. This could be the whitest beach I’ve ever seen. The sand is some of the finest in the world having been created through various volcanic thermal activities millions of years ago. The sand is like flour. When you walk on it it crunches beneath your feet. It becomes so white because the water is able to strip all other material from the fine sand and all that is left is a pearl white sand that looks surreal. The sand is so fine that in fact jewelers from around the world use the sand to polish their stones. NASA even used the sand in its Hubble Telescope. It’s absolutely beautiful to see.

TIP – To really enhance the colors of your photo you really need to learn how to use Photoshop’s hue/saturation tool. Some people prefer curves using the RGB and the individual Red Green and Blues but I find that using a eye dropper tool is highly effective. Sometimes your camera doesn’t always capture the colors as your eyes see it. If you take the eye dropper and click on a particular color, for instance the blue in the sky and change the hue dail it will often come much closer to what you eye experienced as opposed to what the cameras sensor records.

So you want to start your own personal blog, but you have no idea how to write a blog post. You’ve heard it’s pretty easy: you come up with a topic, write about 250 words about it and hit “post”. Cool!

So… you’ve done that but didn’t get a single hit and now you’re asking yourself why.

Because you reckon you wrote some pretty attention-grabbing article. And in the meantime, some crappy blogs on the most common topics get 3000 visitors daily and that can only convert into a lot of money for the owner.

You certainly want to know how that is possible so let’s get into it! What is it that brings people swarming to a certain blog post and makes them acclaim the writer although you feel you could have done so much better?

It is all a matter of structure and optimization.

Come again? But I assumed that the essential is to write about something interesting. And it took me hours to make it sound just right!

Naturally, content DOES matter. You don’t write something just to fill in some space and then wait for visitors to show up. But there’s a lot more to a blog’s allure than just its content.

The first thing you have to do is to choose a subject and look for the most appropriate keywords for it. Your article has to be laser-targeted on some particular keyword phrases (no more than two!). Remember that search engines are mere machines, they can’t tell if you wrote with enthusiasm, only if your content is relevant to your chosen subject.

The essentials that make up an article are the title, the body and the tags.  All of them are VERY important when it comes to writing a compelling blog post, they are what search engines analyze in order to establish their rankings.

The Title

If you want your post to even be given the light of day, its title must include your targeted keywords. If your chosen subject is “how to train a pitbull” then your title should definitely be “How to Train a Pitbull” or something along those lines, like “Pitbull Training Tricks”.

The first thing that search engines look for is the title and you are never going to see an article about car insurance on the first pages related to dog training.

The Body

The content itself is not so restrictive. Actually, writing “pitbull training, pitbull training” over and over again will not get you higher ranks. Just be careful to include the key phrases every now and then so that the connection of your article to its title will be evident.

Keywords normally connected to your subject, for example “dog food” or “dog behavior” will also be detected by the search engines and will matter in their determining your article’s relevance.

The Tags

Most people don’t even know tags exist but they probably are the most important element of a blog post.

Tags and keywords are the same thing, namely concise phrases pertaining to your subject which play an important part in determining the article’s relevance.

In keeping with the pitbull training topic, your article can contain tags like “guard dog training” or “aggressive dog training”.

I think the best strategy to incorporate tags in your article is to choose them in advance. If you want to keep a popular blog it has to focus on subjects that people are interested in, and the first thing you need to do before writing anything is the keyword research.
